June 1, 2018 KI announced a Daily Assignment Rewards Bonus started today and will run through June 17. They’re also offering Pet-a-Palooza, wherein you can buy pets and some pet-related items in the Crown Shop for a sale price.
The previous Daily Assignment events offered double rewards but I noted they’re carefully not saying double. I haven’t done any of the assignments yet so I’m not sure what the “bonus” will turn out to be. Since I haven’t found the Daily Assignments to be worth the time they take and have been less-than-impressed by doing it even for double rewards, I’m skeptical about how likely it is we’ll receive anything that justifies wandering to far flung corners of the spiral to fight battles that take as long as finishing quests with far greater rewards.
The pets can be up to 50% off, which means many will be less off. Personally I’d say go to the hatching kiosk and find a pet with the talents you want with which to hatch. Many — if not most — in there require gold only and the ones that require paying something in crowns offer way lower crowns prices than the pets in the shop.
Or better yet find a friend (there are also Facebook groups you can join where you can ask to hatch for specified talents and many people who generously offer pets who have just what you want. You can also specify the type of pet and the talents so you can get one for whom somebody else has already hatched to the perfect talent set. No crowns at all.
But if you’ve had your eye on a favorite Crown pet and you can’t find someone with whom to hatch, now is a good moment to save.
KI has launched two new member benefits: Unlimited Crafting and Double Reagents. Members can do unlimited craft projects without having to wait for timers to reset. And any reagents dropped in battles, found in spots where they spawn or harvested in gardens are doubled.
I’ve been saving gardens to a double garden event, but for one of my wizards who’s gold supplies keep being depleted due to lots of hatch requests for her quint heal pet, I went ahead an harvested some Pink Dandelions so I could sell those extra black pearls, crystal vials, etc.
Runs through the weekend, so you have till something like 8 a.m. central daylight time Monday. Have fun!
January 7, 2018
I”m again very late making note of a Double Pet Rewards event but you have till something like 8 a.m. tomorrow e.s.t. to train those pets for double points from the games and the snacks. Hurry and you can get a few pets trained up while it’s still on.
Having been seized with a longing for one of my Life wizzes to get Pigsie, I’ve been farming Loremaster (the only place it drops) with three of my Life wizards. Two of them have joined a Storm wizard in getting Krampus — pretty much useless to me for any of them as I don’t have a Fire Amulet and don’t intend to get one…
The Storm got it on her one and only battle with Loremaster before she was even in Dragonspyre by porting in to help someone, which led to me realizing you can pick up the Loremaster quest without having attained the world (she was almost finished with Mooshu and had done most side quests too so she was at a level that could have been in DS if she’d finished the main quests so I don’t know how low a level you could be to pick it up).
So today I put my one Fire wizard in just to see if she could get it and sure enough on the second try she got it. Leaving me with four wizards who’ve gotten Krampus, three of whom won’t ever use it and one who will. And no wizard has gotten any other permanent spell from Loremaster. None. Ever. I keep thinking in these dungeons where you can get a spell dropped it would make more sense if KI tuned it up so you’re more likely to get the spell for your wizard’s school. But then I don’t do secondary schools…
Meanwhile I’ve been mostly farming with Rylee W., my level 93 Life wiz. Not only is she not getting Pigsie but in almost every team she’s winding up directly across from Loremaster — which means she’s taking most of her hits — and only getting one drop. Every time. One drop. And it’s always a low level item of gear, not any treasure cards, not any housing items and definitely no spells. I’ve farmed it enough to know you often get 2 or 3 TCs, a gear item and a snack or a housing item so I find it very weird that randomly this particular wizard receives one and only one drop (besides the gold) 99% of the time.*
Meanwhile, back on the Double Pets. I did decide to train a pet for my Fire wiz and wound up with a pet with 4 may-cast heals and a Fire damage boost, so pretty pleased. The weird thing here was that I trained a bunch last night and then shut down. Something like 14 hours later I got on today to finish mega and her energy had still not filled all the way back up from last night’s training. I don’t have super energy gear, so she only needed to get to 114 from something like 6, but she’d only made it to 99. In 14 hours. Really? I usually can come back after more like 8 or 10 hours and find the energy globe full.
I know many of us have been noting during Double Garden events that KI seems to be slowing down the growing time on various plants so there are several you can no longer plant at the beginning of a Double event and get it to elder harvest during the event. So I’m wondering if now they’re also slowing down the refill time on the energy globes during Double Pet events? Is anybody else having this experience?
Okay, so that’s my current noting of mysterious events in the spiral 🙂
What’s left of today is also our last shot at holiday drops and dungeons. Have fun!
* Actually for Rylee, I’ve noticed her regularly receiving one drop to Morgan’s many a huge amount of the time when I have the two of them questing together, so it may not just be quirk of Loremaster … might be a quirk about Rylee 🙂
On the Adult non-PVP group today people were commenting on the inactivity on Wizard101 and somebody mentioned it seemed odd to have nothing going on during a major school vacation time. It’s a thought I’ve had every year. One expressed hope for Double Garden XP; since I’ve had gardens sitting at elder harvest waiting for a double event since early October, I sure get that wish!
As I mentioned in the last post, every year KI just kind of disappears at the end of the 12 Days of the Spiral event. A game that’s supposedly for children and they provide nothing in the way of extra entertainment or diversion during the whole Christmas vacation every year … seems strange.
When they shut down for maintenance last night people were hoping there’d be a Double Garden or something special happening today but the Yule stuff continues. You can still buy the Christmas housing items in the Crown Shop (most available for gold as well). The holiday drops and bundles seem to be around and apparently will be through this Sunday, January 7, 2018.
Which means you can probably plan on waiting at least until next week to see any new or special activities in the spiral. The holiday dead zone at Wizard101 continues…
KI is offering the membership deal I think is possibly their best. Now through January 4, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. you can pay $74.99 and get a year of membership plus 13,250 crowns. And the mystery discount deal is still going on (I think through the 31st? — they’ve taken down the page with the info) so if you haven’t used it yet you might get the deal for less.
One year I lucked out and got the 50% off discount on this deal! Now that is a fantastic membership price.
In the meantime, we’ve hit the point I think of as the annual dead zone. Once the 12 days of the spiral finishes, KI seems to shut down other than techs and nothing new happens for something like 3 weeks. The holiday dungeons will still be there and you can farm for drops. But no double pet or garden events, 5 BOXES or Lost Pages, etc. will be coming and going until a bit into January. So enjoy the remaining time with the special holiday stuff and don’t expect surprises for a while.
I’ve been remiss about posting on the Christmas festivities in the spiral. The usual 12 Days of the Spiral event is already on day 9. The Yuletide vendor is in the Shopping District. Certain bosses are dropping Christmas pets and decorations.
As usual, the 12 days event is a mixture of giving away some free items and inviting you to spend crowns on new seasonal pets, mounts, etc. They’ve given away new holiday packs a couple of times already.
The Stormdrain is the easiest, fastest place to farm for seasonal pets and decorations, etc. If you want to get other drops that are higher level and will garner more gold for your farming time, try something higher level like the Jade Oni in Mooshu. Some of the places to go:
- Jade Oni
- Krampus (Rank 15)
- Lord Nightshade
- Othin Stormfather
- Starburst Spider
- Tse-tse Snaketail
I’m realizing we’re running out of Halloween time in the Spiral and I haven’t participated very much. My main activity involved two of my wizards fighting through Nosferabbit’s dungeon enough times for each of them to create a Nosferabbit house guest. Which meant I also had enough veggie revenants to create a bunch of house guests from them.
I haven’t been too interested in Monstrology and since I find most of the creatures you can use to create guests yucky, I haven’t even wanted to do that. But I do think Nosferabbit is funny and the veggie revenants are pretty cute, so…
I’m kinda done with the Stormdrain Tower since I don’t like the way so many people behave in there and I’ve gotten most of the pets and realized.. they’re not particularly good… I’ve run through a bunch of the Jack Hallow quests — I DO get a kick out of the ghost collecting bit. With one wizard I did the highest level of the Ravenwood dungeons — never have found that I get anything worth the time it takes to do those towers. Not sure if I just have really bad luck or if the drops aren’t that great in general.
I must admit I’m more ho hum about the game lately than I usually am — and immersed in some genealogy research that’s calling to me more persistently — but I just couldn’t get too excited about the same old Halloween stuff. There’s a new bundle that does look fun but I can’t afford it at this time.
And the test realm has been open for a new world. As usual, only those who’ve made it through the last world (Mirage) can get in to see the new one. I’ll never understand why they don’t make up some little quest anyone can do that lets everybody see the new world — seems like it would be a way better PR/advertising move to entice people by giving them a taste. Since I can’t see it I’m not at all moved to log in to the test realm.
If you want those Halloween drops and your Frankenbunny, etc. start hustling, your days to collect Halloween goodies are dwindling.
The month of special Halloween events begins. You can farm the Stormdrain Tower for special drops or farm Baron Mordecai, who is only around for this event. Win your bunny pet by doing Dworgyn’s quest (level 13 and up). Take part in the Jack Hallow quests. Complete the special towers in Ravenwood.
For much of the fun you don’t have to have a paid membership, so this is a nice chance for free players to pick up some good drops. Spooky Bob is, as always, selling the special Halloween pets and costumes in The Shopping District and most of the items he sells are available as drops from Lord Nightshade and Baron Mordecai.
While I enjoy this event, I’ve seen some comments about it being the same stuff every time and I can’t disagree. I’ve participated for enough years that I find myself wishing every time that a couple of the quests would change or a new quest would be added to the mix. Still, it’s a bunch of stuff that only shows up once a year for a few weeks so I find it a fun diversion.
If you’re farming I have one main piece of advice: in the Stormdrain Tower there tend to be an inordinate number of players who go in on Team Up and wipe everybody out before all wizards are in the circle (people who are actually on the main story quest are stopped at the door by a chat with Nightshade). They don’t care that some people get no drops and they will not let lower level wizards participate in the battle. For some reason (probably that it’s a little harder and takes a little longer) more of the patient and kind-to-other players wizards farm at Mordecai. So if you want to go fast and don’t give a crap about anybody else, go to Stormdrain. If you want to hang out with really nice folks, have a chance to participate, get some drops and don’t mind moving a little slower, farm Mordecai.
Since I’m one of the lucky ones who’s been able to get on the game since pretty early in the DDOS attacks, I’ve been enjoying the extended birthday celebration — in fact, I’d say I’m wearing out a bit on it…
Every day I’m aware of glitches that I assume are being caused by the attacks. I’m still having the pet games freeze up in the midst of play and winding up having to close out the game and log back on. I’m still having freezes and weird happenings while gardening as well, some of which also wind up requiring me to either quit and come back in or log out altogether.
It took me a while to catch on to one glitch. I kept thinking it was odd that the double harvests were garnering so few treasure cards from plants that usually drop quite a few. Finally I realized for most of my gardening wizards Harold Argleston has not been popping up when I hit max on the TCs. That’s always my signal to stop harvesting and go sell a bunch of cards. Without it, I kept harvesting and apparently have lost most of the treasure card drops this time.
Be aware that you may want to keep stopping your harvest to check on your TC totals and see if you need to pop to the Bazaar. With a few wizards hatching like crazy during double pets time, I’ve really needed the gold and it hurt my game plan that I wasn’t able to sell all those cards and turn the gold to pricey amulets I could toss in the Shared Bank to keep the coffers up for the ones I have hatching.
Hatching has been grueling so far. Thanks to a patient member of the Adult Non PvP Player group on Facebook, I got the desired quint heal pet you see above for Jasmine in about six hatches. Then the same member and I started hatching with Rylee W., on the second account. We’re up to seven, I think, and the latest one failed at adult. I’ve had Jasmine hatching with Heather G., on the third account. It took six tries to even get a porpoise and I’m now on eight and that one failed…
In the meantime, I haven’t been able to find an indication from KI as to when they’re going to cut off this extension to the birthday celebration. Don’t forget this is a time when people are gathering so many extra snacks, reagents and treasure cards from their gardens that many otherwise tough to find items are plentiful at the Bazaar (and often cheaper than usual). Take advantage while you can!
July 30, 2017
I’m very behind on posting so I’m just in time for the last day of Double Pet Rewards. You have till something like 8 a.m. EST Monday morning to get double XP on pet games and snacks if you’re a member.
It’s been a little odd this time. I’ve had several wizards who either couldn’t get into the Pet Pavilion without closing out and starting again or took several tries. And the Gobbler game froze midstream and I had to close the game and log in again — of course lost the energy points anyway…
I have managed to finish training some decent pets:
I’ve also tried to find hatches for my Storm and Fire girls, who’ve never managed to have very good pets, but no dice this time…
