Double Garden: good days to go to the Bazaar

Even if you don’t have anything to do with gardening in Wizard101, you can benefit at the Bazaar from Double Garden events. Those of us who DO garden are busily harvesting double reagents, double pet snacks, double housing items — most of which are “likes” for plants — and double Treasure Cards.  And any of us who’ve been doing large scale gardening very long don’t need most of those things, so we’re also selling all our extra stuff at the Bazaar.

For instance, Evil Magma Peas drop Djembe Drums and Egg Baskets (both likes for Evil Magma Peas), Tower Shield and Feint TC’s (and more), and Scrap Iron, Black Lotus, Aether, Aquamarine, Sandstone, Sunstone, Pearls and Golden Pearls.  I have the likes for all my gardens, have giant stockpiles of the TC’s and my banks and shared banks have huge stores of the reagents.  So I sell almost everything I get in the harvests.

Couch Potatoes drop a bunch of pet snacks at every level of harvest, plus Empower and lots of Star TC’s and their own “likes”, Litter and Sandwich Stations.  Again I’ve collected all I need and, if anything needs replenishing, these events refill my stores and still leave me with lots to sell.

Sword Ferns drop so many blades of almost every sort that I sell tons of those, and they drop their own likes plus some other housing items as well.

You get the idea.  those of us who garden have to stop once or twice in the midst of harvesting to sell things in the Bazaar so our backpacks and shared banks have room to collect the rest.  It means there are not only lots of often-hard-to-get items available in big numbers, but because there are so many the prices are often down.

What you can’t get easily during these events are the gardening tc’s.  Since all the gardeners are frantically buying up these cards to use while they wring the max out of the event, the gardening tc’s are harder to come by.

If you need some rare reagents for crafting or want to pluck up a bunch of pet snacks while available and cheaper or you’re ready to start gardening and need some likes for your chosen plants, it’s worth watching out for Double Garden events and hanging out at the Bazaar.  These events happen way less often than most of the other member benefits so take advantage while you can.

Double Gardens at last

May 25, 2018 Yesterday KI announced a Double Garden event through Sunday.  Been a long wait!

During this time you will receive double drops of all kinds for every harvest (mature or elder) — tc’s, xp, housing items, snacks, reagents, seeds, gold.  I’ve had many gardens sitting at elder harvest waiting for this.  Just from this one set of harvests I’ve largely restored the gold supplies I depleted for many wizards during the double pet event last weekend.

There isn’t enough time to get very many types of plants to elder if you plant now, but a few things like Evil Magma Peas and Couch Potatoes move quickly enough that you could get a couple of mature harvests.  I think Double Garden days are one of the best deals KI offers so take advantage.

It’s especially a good chance to double up on seeds you normally either have to buy with crowns or farm for endlessly.  And those double mega snacks — can’t beat the impact on your supplies of those.

Another Double Pets — and no Double Gardens… still

April 5, 2018

KI started yet another Double Pets event today, just after some of us were commenting on the adult non-PvP Facebook group about hoping for a Double Gardening event.

I gather KI either (1) makes more money off elixir sales or (2) loses less in crowns since double gardening helps people expand their seed supplies without purchasing or (3) maybe both, with the double pet events, so the Double Garden events have become few and far between.

As usual, I have many wizards hanging out with full gardens at elder harvest, now for something like 2 or 3 months, waiting for a double event.  Sometimes I wind up needing gold and having to harvest and replant before an event finally comes around…

Meanwhile, through Sunday, April 8, you’ll receive double XP for both pet games and pet snacks.  At the moment I still feel like it’s mostly a big waste of time or a crap shoot in which I spend way too much boring time with little chance of getting what I hoped for, so don’t know that I’ll be taking advantage.  And it sure doesn’t inspire me the way the garden events do to buy a membership for my non-member accounts to participate.

I wonder how much they really lose in crowns for seeds since many of us build (built) our gardens by farming for seed drops.  For me, the double events just meant I was able to build my supply faster — for which I felt so incredibly grateful as I don’t enjoy endlessly fighting the same mobs over and over 🙂  I didn’t pay crowns for the seeds to begin with.  And some folks try to plant more during the event and harvest another round and buy elixir to do so.  I’m curious how much more they profit from double pets than double gardens?

Bottom line, if you’re still working on pets, this is a good time to speed up the training.  If you’re waiting for double harvests in gardening, don’t hold your breath.

Double Garden benefits for non-gardeners

As the Double Garden event wound down and I kept taking wizards to the Bazaar to sell off the last of their harvests, I realized even those who don’t garden and don’t want to can reap some some benefits during the double reward events.

Plants routinely can drop:  (1) housing items; (2) reagents; (3) treasure cards; (4) pet snacks.  Many plants drop all of the above, some just drop two or three.  Those of us who do a lot of gardening generally have well-filled stores of reagents, TCs, etc.  When we start getting double we make a lot of trips to the Bazaar to sell things off as we keep hitting our limits.

Many treasure cards, snacks, plant-“like”-housing items and reagents that can be hard to come by at the Bazaar are suddenly being sold in copious numbers.  Not only can you sometimes pick up cards, etc. that usually require a long slog at the shop, but often because more are available, the price is better.

For instance, I grow Pink Dandelions quite a bit.  They drop

Ancient Scroll
Black Pearl
Blood Moss
Bone
Cat Tail
Crystal Vial
Lava Lily
Spring

and several of those — like Black Pearl — are much in demand for crafting.  They can take a lot of farming to get enough and I sell a bunch every time I harvest.  Evil Magma Peas, besides a similarly enticing list of reagents (including Scrap Iron!!!), also drop Feint and Tower Shield tcs, both of which are so sought-after the Bazaar often has none.  Couch Potatoes drop a bunch of level 5, 6 and 7 snacks at regular harvests; because they drop mega snacks at elder harvest, many of us sell all the other snacks, so items like Killer Tomato and Shanta Pudding that can be not only hard to grab but pricey can be more available and lower in price.

So even if you never garden and never will, you might want to take advantage of the next Double Garden Reward event by hanging out at the Bazaar stocking up on items you usually have trouble finding.  If you have particular items you want, check the wiki to see whether there are plants that drop them.  If there are, make sure you haunt the Bazaar for them on Double Garden days.

Double XP affected by DDoS attacks?

Besides the usual difficulties these attacks cause for getting into the game and getting kicked off the game, I’ve been noticing an impact on the harvest drops.  On two of my accounts for certain crops my wizards – and mostly two particular wizards- are getting no treasure cards.  Getting in and staying in has been such an issue I hesitated to try to plant some quick-growing crops but I’ve done it anyway so am interested to see whether the treasure card drought for these two continues.

For instance, one of the main reasons I grow Sword Ferns is to collect TC blades.  They normally drop blades at every level of harvest and then give even more at elder harvest, so if you get double rewards, there’s a boatload of blades.  Two of my wizards harvested 40+ Sword Ferns apiece at elder harvest as soon as the double rewards started and got … ZERO blades.

Now on these particular two accounts I’ve had an ongoing problem that the Harold Argleston warning about having reached the maximum number of treasure cards doesn’t work any more.  Not ever.  But I’m aware of it and am pretty careful about checking on how close to the 999 max I am and every time I’ve harvested a chunk of plants, I check in to see if I need to go to the Bazaar to sell a bunch off before I harvest more.  So realizing that my TC blade counts  had not changed at all after harvesting (including that I always sell or trade off all the ones for schools I don’t use so there should have been some piles of blades where normally there are none) that many Sword Ferns was a shock.

For these two accounts I’ve also been feeding a lot of seeds to pets and those wizards are not getting treasure cards for that either.  For Rylee W. (level 92 Life), there may be a bigger problem.  As noted in a recent post, I’ve been taking her in to farm Loremaster and she’s only getting one gear drop each time, with an occasional reagent added.  Nothing else.  Including no treasure cards at a boss who regularly drops more than one at a time.  So there may be something going on with this character where her programming is screwed up in some odd way that keeps her from ever getting a treasure card in any circumstances.

It also seemed like I got quite a bit less in the way of housing item drops than normal for certain crops.

Since KI seems to have taken to changing the growing times, drop rates, energy globe refill times, etc. to lower the benefits of these events, I’m not sure whether these drop issues are because of the DDoS attacks or are just part of the plan to reduce benefits?  Curious if others are noticing issues with the rewards this time?

Funny time for dead zone

Picture 2017-07-10 23-56-41

On the Adult non-PVP group today people were commenting on the inactivity on Wizard101 and somebody mentioned it seemed odd to have nothing going on during a major school vacation time.  It’s a thought I’ve had every year.  One expressed hope for Double Garden XP; since I’ve had gardens sitting at elder harvest waiting for a double event since early October, I sure get that wish!

As I mentioned in the last post, every year KI just kind of disappears at the end of the 12 Days of the Spiral event.  A game that’s supposedly for children and they provide nothing in the way of extra entertainment or diversion during the whole Christmas vacation every year …  seems strange.

When they shut down for maintenance last night people were hoping there’d be a Double Garden or something special happening today but the Yule stuff continues.  You can still buy the Christmas housing items in the Crown Shop (most available for gold as well).  The holiday drops and bundles seem to be around and apparently will be through this Sunday, January 7, 2018.

Which means you can probably plan on waiting at least until next week to see any new or special activities in the spiral.  The holiday dead zone at Wizard101 continues…

Instead of gardens, again double pets…

Deer Knight

Deer Knight

I tapped on the game icon to check out the “news” column, hoping we might finally get a Double Garden event and instead noted I think the third (if not the fourth) Double Pet event since the birthday celebrations.

I depleted my gold supplies so badly during the birthday celebrations–between TONS of pet training and a couple of wizards who hit the level for some super pricey garden spells– I’ve had a bunch of gardens sitting at elder harvest waiting for a double garden thing for a couple of months now.  Pretty soon I’m gonna have to harvest without a double event to restore more gold and replant, hoping for an event to show up.

If I participate in this pet thing much at all I’ll deplete what I’ve managed to build back and the coffers across accounts will be way down again.  Why no double garden?

After the celebration

Even though I didn’t take as much advantage of the extended birthday celebration as I once would have, I feel kind of relieved the party is over so I no longer feel compelled to keep trying for another garden or to keep hatching and training pets.

I did very well with the gardening in spite of not planting one batch immediately following another nor planting the biggest gardens for every wizard.  Pets ate LOADS of seeds and my mega snack coffers are well stocked.  Wizards are well supplied with blades of many sorts, thanks to the Sword Fern crops that were already sitting at elder harvest when the event began.

Pet training wound up mostly being disappointing as usual, with one exception.  I did get a great quint heal pet for Jasmine R.  Tried to hatch hers with Heather G.’s triple heal Seraph and at 12 failed hatches I gave up.  For one the fail was Life Giver, which I’m not that unhappy to have for a Life wizard so I trained the final step and got the fourth heal and Heather will just have to muddle through with that 🙂  The lovely lady from the Adult Non PvP group on FB who helped Jasmine then helped me with Rylee W., for whom I also wanted to get a quint heal pet.  I kind of lost count but we’re at something like seven, maybe eight, hatches and the latest one is a fail there too.

Some of the pundits in the world of pets claim quite authoritatively that it takes seven generations or less to get a replica.  I’d never hatched that many times on one so I’ve assumed it was true.  Very lowering to find out that KI has set this up so apparently there’s no limit to how many hatches it could take to get the pet you want.  Just adds to my general feeling that I don’t want to be bothered when it comes to pets.

I only train pets when they have double pet rewards so I’m done with that for a while.  Rylee has a couple of miscellaneous plants that didn’t manage to reach elder before the double gardening was over but otherwise all gardens are empty and I plan to leave them sitting for at least a week.

My general plan once I’ve had time off is plant gardens for two wizards on an account, get all theirs to elder harvest and leave it then two wizards on another account, etc. until as many wizards as I want to participate in double rewards have elder harvests ready to go.  That way I don’t have to put in too much time per day on gardening but manage to get plenty of double rewards when an event shows up. I’ve been doing it that way for a while and it makes the gardening very relaxed.

I spent so much time on the pets and gardens that once again I barely participated in the BOXES event and never did any of the Lost Pages stuff at all.  As always, I enjoyed the party and it was really nice to have the extension so I was able to accomplish a bit more than usual without putting in tons of extra hours at the game.  Now the Halloween festivities are just around the corner!
